What is VoIP?

VoIP is an abbreviation for “Voice over Internet Protocol”. VoIP is a family of technologies, methodologies, communication protocols, and transmission techniques for the delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet. Internet telephony refers to communications services - Voice, fax, SMS, and/or voice-messaging applications - that are transported via the Internet, rather than the public switched telephone network (PSTN).

How does VoIP work?

The principle of VOIP telephone services is very simple: instead of regular phone landlines, your voice is sent through the Internet. While performing equivalently well as a regular phone line VoIP home line delivers you many advantages. Our home line services considerably reduce the price of the calls, particularly long distance phone calls. VOIP home phone is extremely flexible, whereby you require no phone line, and only use an Internet connection; this means that your VOIP phone number will be reachable no matter what country you are staying in. Plus with the purchase of Gold Leaf Telecom home line package you automatically receive a range of exclusive features a regular land line cannot offer, such as call display, call forwarding, call waiting, voicemail etc. VoIP is available on many smartphones and internet devices so even the users of portable devices that are not phones can still make calls or send SMS text messages over 3G or Wi-Fi.

I have dial up Internet. Will I be able to talk long distance via it?

No, you will not be able to make a long distance call. VoIP will only work with high speed internet connections and will not work with dial up internet connections.
